Visitation Requirements

Visits are important for both our residents and their families, and we are committed to supporting them in keeping with the provincial and local health authority guidelines. New visitor guidelines for long-term care and assisted living came into effect March 18, 2022 and are as follows:

  • Family/social visits are no longer limited to one designated family member or friend.

  • Residents may have more social visitors outdoors, in an appropriate location, and in alignment with current provincial health officer guidelines.

  • Family and friends are not permitted to participate in large indoor gatherings.

  •  Outdoor events may include fully vaccinated family and friends who have met the visitation requirements

  • The maximum number of visitors at outdoor social gatherings must align with current PHO guidance, meet WorkSafeBC COVID-19 safety or communicable disease prevention plans, and follow appropriate IPC practices to ensure the safety of all staff, residents, and visitors.

  • Family and friends can visit in residents’ rooms or in designated common areas without staff present.

  • There are no longer restrictions on the frequency or duration of visits.

  • Every resident is entitled to regular, routine, frequent opportunities for social visitation.

  • Residents will be supported to leave the facility for appropriate outings and family visits.

  • Visitation will be suspended if there is an active COVID-19 outbreak declared at the site.

Visitor Protocol

  • Visitors must be screened for signs and symptoms of illness prior to every visit.

  • Visitors are required to wear a medical mask in the common areas. While in the resident’s room the visitor can take off their mask.

  • Visitors and residents are expected to practice hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.
